“Through my time of being [in the ARBI unit], I’ve learned about my difficulties with my memory, but my memories are coming back to me, and I now understand the reality of what’s happened in my life. It was the best decision for me to come here, and to get my life back”

A, Resident.

Situated in South-East Belfast, the ARBI unit has 14 individual, furnished, en-suite bedrooms, with communal areas and an expansive garden area for socialising, relaxing and therapeutic activity. It is in close proximity to multiple shopping areas, cafes, restaurants, and a national forest, which all residents are encouraged to avail of regularly.

The service has a highly trained staff team on-site 24/7, who offer specialised rehabilitation and intervention using bespoke goal plans and a weekly timetable of 1:1 and group sessions with a focus on promotion of emotional wellbeing, physical health and exercise, skills development and tools for preventing relapse and maintaining abstinence.

All placements in the service are temporary and length of stay can vary. This will be determined by personal rehabilitation goals. With the right treatment at the right time, it is estimated that a significant number of people will make a partial or full recovery.

What life is like

Residents of the ARBI unit are encouraged to contribute and participate in all areas of the home. Routines are a key component to their rehabilitation, and this will include timetabled activities around general maintenance of the environment, preparing meals in the kitchen, tending to the garden, managing personal appointments, and attending external groups. Dependent on personal goals, residents will also be supported to explore voluntary opportunities or a return to paid work.

Downtime is important, and residents are offered a range of leisure activities both on and off-site.

Rehabilitation for each individual can look very different, and all residents are invited to take an active role in their goal plans, ensuring that their experience is tailored for outcomes they have self-identified.

Make a referral

Please note the ARBI Unit is a rehabilitation service and not a long-term care facility.   Referrals should only be made if further rehabilitation has been recommended by the multidisciplinary team.  If it has already been agreed that an individual requires long-term residential or nursing care, referral to the ARBI Unit is not appropriate.

“Thank you for all of your rehabilitative work with […]. I was very struck by their increased verbal fluency and working memory at my review last week. Thank you for the support, and due to the rehab work with yourselves, they are in a much better place to move on and take the next step in life”
